Narrator: The deathstalker is one of the most dangerous scorpions on the planet, and what makes it so dangerous also happens to be the most expensive liquid in the world. This stuff costs $39 million per gallon. Now, even if you had the money, you couldn’t just go and buy a gallon of the stuff, because you can only get it in tiny, minuscule amounts. $130 will get you a droplet that’s smaller than a grain of sugar.

The reason why is pretty simple: the stuff is hard to get. Scorpions are almost always milked by hand, one by one. And one scorpion produces, at the most, just two milligrams of venom at a time.

So, let’s do the math. If you owned one scorpion you would have to milk it 2.64 million times to fill a gallon. And let’s face it, you’d probably get stung along the way as well. One sting isn’t enough to kill a healthy human, but I think it hurts.

Steve Trim: I’d easily put it being a hundred times more painful than a bee sting, but because pain is a subjective and emotional experience, it’s difficult to really get a quantification on that. But it’s definitely gonna ruin your day.

Chlorotoxins, for example, are the perfect size to bind with certain cancer cells in the brain and spine, which is helpful for identifying the specific size and location of tumors. And researchers have used scorpion to eliminate malaria in mosquitoes. Kaliotoxin has been given to rats to fight bone disease. Scientists hope it could work in humans too.

These are just a few of the medical benefits that researchers have found in scorpion venom. And the more they research it, the more uses they find. Which means demand for this miracle venom continues to grow. So scientists are now trying to figure out ways to get more of it faster.

Like this group out of Morocco, who invented the first remote control machine for milking scorpions. It can safely milk up to four scorpions at a time. It might not sound like much, but it’s four times faster than a human. Scientists hope to get on the market within a few years, making the whole process faster and safer.

“Faster and safer?”, you’re probably thinking, “Hmmm, maybe I should start my own scorpion farm.”

Scorpion Venom $39,000,000 per gallon

Scorpion venom is the most expensive liquid on earth. It costs around $38,585,507.46 per gallon (3.7 liters).

It’s more expensive than Thailand’s King Cobra venom, which costs around $153,835.82 a gallon (3.7 liters).

Scorpion venom contains 5 Million unstudied compounds this is why it’s called the ” Cocktail of bioactive compounds”.

Scorpion venom is useful in medical applications. Proteins from it’s toxin showed antimicrobial activity.


Scorpion venom also exhibited antimalarial properties. It can be used in the development of new drugs. A drug called Vidatox was obtained from blue scorpions, it’s known as “Cuba’s Miracle Drug”. The drug shows promising anti-cancer activity and it has been tested on more than 10,000 cancer patients. The drug demonstrated positive results against various cancers.

Researchers are looking into using scorpion venom as a painkiller. A peptide from scorpion venom can suppress immune responses allowing it to be used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.

There are nearly 2,000 scorpion species. Only about 40 species are poisonous enough to kill a human being.

Collecting scorpion venom is called “Milking”. An average of less than 0.5 mg of venom is obtained from one scorpion. Milking process is an extremely difficult task and can be potentially life threatening.

There are different methods for extracting Scorpion venom, such as puncturing the venom gland, also called abdominal removal. This technique is unreliable and harmful to the insect.

Another technique involves electric stimulation in which Scorpion abdomen is electrically stimulated to release the venom. Electric stimulation results in larger quantities.

Researchers have developed a robot to extract Scorpion venom. The lightweight VES-4 venom-extracting robot is portable and uses a remote controlled technology. The Robots allows for Scorpion venom to be extracted safely and quickly. The robot is designed not to harm the insect. This robot can be handled by one person in the lab or in field.

Current research on Scorpion venom is progressing very slowly due to lack of large quantities of the venom. However, it could eventually revolutionize the way we treat diseases.

Blue scorpion venom drug – Vidatox – a proven help against many types of carcinoma

What is a cure in small doses; is a poison in bigger doses and vice versa.

That is what an old saying tells us and its validity is confirmed once again.

A new homeopathic drug made of blue scorpion venom cures many types of carcinoma in humans, according to Cuban scientists.

Blue scorpion (Rhopalurus Junceus) lives on Cuba and it was named after its blue tail at the end of which is scorpion’s infamous sting.

Its body color is actually orange-red, so this scorpion is also sometimes called the red scorpion.

The idea that came from the natives

Scientists from this Caribbean island started examining scorpion’s venom in September 1997, encouraged by the findings that the natives have for centuries been using that substance for tumor treatment.

In comprehensive and thorough research, scientists concluded that venom’s compounds have analgesic, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor effects that prolong the life expectancy of carcinoma patients, alleviate the pain and sometimes even reduce tumor tissue.

“It took us fifteen years to scientifically prove the beneficial effects of scorpion venom. As we came to realize, the native’s beliefs in the healing properties of this venom proved to be correct”, doctor Guevara Garcia, one of the researches, said.

The result of this research is a drug called Vidatox 30 CH produced by a Cuban company Labiofam. It is believed that this drug reduces the spreading of cancer cells and prolongs patient’s life expectancy.

Which diseases does this drug effect?

Researchers claim that Vidatox enhances life quality of people suffering from breast, liver, spleen, lung, brain, cervix, prostate and other types of cancer.

This drug has been tested on patients from Europe, USA and Cuba, and no severe side effects have been reported.

The venom contains low molar mass proteins which can prevent tumor cell occurrence and spreading.

According to Cuban doctors that support Vidatox treatment in oncology, active ingredients of scorpion venom block certain cell enzymes and prevent angiogenesis, i.e. the creation of new blood vessels inside tumors.

Without new blood vessels, tumor cannot be fed and there is a potential that the tumor will die.

Such effects have been confirmed during laboratory testing on tumor cells in Mexico.

Drug production

The venom is taken from living scorpion that is electrically stimulated to release two to three drops of venom. The drug is produced by taking five to six doses of venom using the aforementioned procedure.

Collected venomous fluid is diluted in distilled water and venom concentration in solution depends on the cancer type and the patient’s condition.

This drug is applied orally and during the treatment patients have to obey special diet instructions created for better absorption of drug’s active compounds.

Cuba is famous for scorpion usage in therapeutic purposes since the beginning of the 20th century.
